Charleston County residents can register through this Web site for a program called Alert Charleston County. The free program allows the public to receive phone and text message notifications about emergency situations. When notified, citizens will hear a message that gives details on the emergency and includes instructions on what actions to take.

If activated by authorities during an emergency, Alert Charleston County will dial every listed land line phone number within the area affected. If you have an unlisted landline number, cell phone number or broadband phone number and want to receive emergency notifications, you must register using the form below in order to receive emergency messages. An option to receive emergency notifications via text messages on your cell phone is also available as part of the registration process below.

The address that is registered for this phone number is very important because an emergency situation may only occur in a neighborhood or localized area. Each phone number you register can only have one address associated with it. However, each address can have multiple phone numbers associated with it.

The Alert Charleston County system is a project of Charleston County which is intended to increase notification opportunities to the public in an emergency situations. Decisions to use the system, the messages which are sent through the system, and the areas to which the messages are sent will be made through the exercise of discretion by County staff depending upon the circumstances of the emergency. The County does not control telephone or electric systems, and the service makes use of computers and software, all of which may fail from time to time. Therefore, there is no guarantee that any or all telephones intended to be contacted will actually be contacted by the system. Charleston County accepts no responsibility or liability for any failure of the system to contact any person or telephone. By registering a telephone number with the system, the user accepts and agrees to these provisions.
